The Ukrainian banking system consists of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) and over 170 commercial banks. The NBU is responsible for monetary circulation, oversight of commercial banks, and regulating the local currency. The Ukrainian banking sector is fragmented and in a pre-consolidation phase.
